While this isn't gourmet/fancy Mexican, this is a great option if you just want a good, quick plate of food. I equate it to the Mexican restaurants that are in the suburbs but are difficult to find ITP. You'll get the typical options, but I recommend the steak tacos or Arroz con Pollo. Delicious!
One thing to note that was difficult to understand the 1st time I came here- it is seat yourself on the honor system. So there will sometimes be a line of people waiting to eat, and it is just the honor system to allow those who arrived first to get the next available table. -

I was very worried to come here for the past 2 years cuz the pictures don't look that great. Plates are sloppy looking. Well, I always saw it busy and a few have recommended it, so I prayed to the food gods and here I am!
The outside of this place is super ugly but the inside was a nice surprise with nice Black booth seats and regular tables.
I ordered the combo 6 for $9.20 which is one taco, 1 enchilada, and rice and beans. You get served chips and salsa and they were good. Not too salty and not too spicy.
Everything was delicious. The taco shell was nice and crispy, the beef wasn't over salted, the enchilada and rice and beans were all a win. I left nothing on my plate. Feels good to have somewhere to eat home cooked food that tastes authentic.
I definitely want to come back and have some margaritas and other items on the menu. -

The food at this place is DISGUSTING, AND THIS PLACE IS NOT CLEAN AT ALL. I went to this place today, and everyone that work here who are mexican had attitudes! I MEAN EVERYBODY, AND THEY WHERE LOOKING AT EVERYBODY CRAZY LIKE THEY DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE. They gave me cold tortilla chips, and I had to ask for some hot chips. Then when, I placed my order the food was NASTY! I ordered a chicken enchilada, a beef enchilada, with beans/rice. The enchiladas where super small, and the rice with beans came in a super small portion. The beef was like small chopped up beef not REAL BEEF, and the chicken was (PULLED CHICKEN) that was shredded. My waiter was ok, but he said they sell everything separate. Unlike most mexican restaurants they have beans that come with rice. This place want you to pay for it separate, and my food most definitely wasn't work $13.01! IT SURE WASN'T! The beans where light brown beans smashed up that looked nasty, and they where not regular black beans! They where just warming old food up, and bringing it out, because somebody else was complaining about their food being cold as well. My rice tasted super old, and wasn't fresh. This place is unsanitary, have horrible customer service, and the food is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. This most definitely isn't a authentic mexican resturant! ugh! I will never patronize this business ever again in LIFE!

Good food. These guys clearly are using the same recipes as the old El Toro's and Jalisco's so if you liked those restaurants then you'll like Taxco.

WE LOVED THIS PLACE!!!
Main points:
Great cheese dip that isn't a tiny amount
Fast, friendly service
Cheap
Delicious salsa
Generous portions
Since we moved to ATL, we've been looking for really good, cheap, made with love, hole in the wall type Mexican food. The kind of place where everything is good, nothing is over priced, and no one is trying to "elevate" the food by adding a couple bucks to a tiny taco and no sides. Don't get me wrong, we love a good taco place that has cool and interesting food, but sometimes you just want something that's plain old delicious and not fancy. This is the place.
You can tell the people who work there really care about their customers and seem like they've worked there for quite some time. We came for lunch at 11 right when they opened and it was empty, but soon enough the place was packed. When we went to leave almost every single table was full. Young, old, families, bros, single people, and couples. Everyone was there and almost everyone got a margarita and the cheese dip. We didn't get margaritas, but we got the cheese dip with jalapeños. SO GOOD! The salsa is also very good. Not too spicy, but a good kick.
I got the fajita burrito and it was phenomenal. My wife got the chicken burrito and liked it, but wished it had less onions inside because she isn't a fan. However, people who like onions would probably love it. I tasted it and loved it.
The prices are really good. Most meals are in the $7-$9 range. A few things go up to $12-$13, but the majority is cheap! I wish this restaurant was closer, but I can see us making the trip up Roswell Rd on weekends to come here. Maybe even catching a few ATL UTD games here. Do yourself a favor and try it!
